Holiday Tragedy: 3 Confirmed Dead in Santasi Apire Tipper Truck Accident

A festive morning turned into a scene of heartbreak today, March 20, after a devastating road accident at Santasi Apire-Himang claimed three lives and left another person fighting for survival. The accident, involving a sand-laden tipper truck, has sent shockwaves through the community as families were preparing to celebrate the Eid Al-Fitr holidays.

The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when the truck, headed towards Himang, reportedly suffered a sudden tire burst. According to local witnesses and drivers at the scene, the situation was made worse by an apparent brake failure, causing the driver to lose total control of the heavy vehicle. The impact was severe, resulting in the immediate death of three individuals.

First responders from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service (Sofoline Division) arrived quickly to manage the chaos. They worked to retrieve the deceased and rescued one survivor who was trapped in the wreckage. That victim is currently in critical condition and has been rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for emergency surgery, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and identification.

Santasi and its surrounding routes, including the Apire-Himang stretch, have seen increased traffic recently due to ongoing holiday travels. This tragic event serves as a grim reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance—especially for heavy-duty trucks—and the need for extra caution on the roads during festive seasons when the risk of accidents typically spikes.
