Real Madrid in Mourning: Former Goalkeeping Coach Silvino Louro Passes Away at 67

The football world is in mourning following the sad news that Silvino Louro, the legendary Portuguese goalkeeping coach and long-time right-hand man to José Mourinho, has passed away. Real Madrid officially confirmed the news, paying tribute to a man who was instrumental in the club’s success during his tenure in Spain.

Silvino Louro passed away at the age of 67 on March 19, following a prolonged battle with illness. He was a familiar face in elite European football, most notably serving as the goalkeeping coach at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013. During those high-pressure years, his expertise helped shape some of the world's best shot-stoppers and solidified his reputation as a master of his craft.

In an official statement, Real Madrid expressed deep sadness, noting that the President and Board of Directors "deeply regret" the loss. The club extended its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to Louro’s family, friends, and former colleagues. Since the news broke, a wave of tributes has poured in from across the globe, with fans and former players reflecting on his massive impact both on and off the pitch.

Before becoming a world-class coach, Silvino Louro enjoyed a distinguished 23-year playing career as a goalkeeper, primarily in Portugal. However, he is perhaps best known globally for his 17-year partnership with José Mourinho. From 2001 to 2018, Louro was a key member of Mourinho's "inner circle," working at top-tier clubs including FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.
